Shea Megale and her amazing companion dog, Pierre, are helping Poplar Springs build momentum for the September 21st Paws for a Cause Event! Come out for Sunday Brunch on September 10 to meet Shea and Pierre, and Poplar will donate 10% of Sunday’s profits to Canine Companions for Independence.
This wonderful nonprofit organization pairs highly trained assistance dogs with children, veterans and adults with disabilities. Shea is partnering with Poplar Springs to hit a fundraising goal of $80,000 to supply two local veterans each with a canine companion (BATTLE BUDDIES). These incredible dogs will help their heroes with daily tasks, and just as important, make them feel safe and loved after their years of tremendous sacrifice. With your help, we can raise awareness for an organization that changes lives with the unique and powerful bond shared between humans and animals.
Shea is a successful young adult fiction writer and motivational speaker who has had Spinal Muscular Atrophy since birth. She received Mercer, her first assistance dog, from Canine Companions for Independence when she was a child. Mercer and Shea bonded as he helped her with daily tasks such as retrieving items, opening doors and turning on lights. When she was just 12 years old, Shea began writing stories about him that became a huge hit series called “Marvelous Mercer”, which she uses to help raise money for Canine Companions for Independence. Her series teaches young readers about humanity, kindness and acceptance through the beautiful relationship between Mercer and Shea. Now 22, her fourth book will launch in the fall of next year.
Come meet the “marvelously” engaging Shea and learn about all the amazing ways her newest assistance dog, Pierre, helps her each day!
